Fastpitch softball tryouts scheduled

The Mid USA MOJO 16 U ladies traveling fastpitch softball tryouts for the 2009 season will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 at Winterview Park.

This year, the first year in competition in ASA&NSA finished third in overall points in the NSA-A of Illinois

Auxiliary to host softball tournament

The Catlin Fire Protection District Auxiliary is hosting a softball tournament June 28 and the rain date is June 29 at Winter Park in Danville.

The first game starts at 9 a.m.

First place will win their money back and T-shirts for each team member and second place will win a T-shirt for each team member.

The entry fee is $150 per team. The softball tournament will be adult coed and ASA coed rules will be followed with double elimination bracket tournament. A mat will be used to determine strikes. Food and beverages will be available. No alcohol on diamonds or dugout. The game time is forfeit time. Teams must pre-register and pay at time of registration to be entered into the tournament. The money raised will support the Catlin firefighters with the purchase of equipment needs.

Vermilion County Democrat Party sponsors golf outing

The Vermilion County Democrat Party 7th annual golf outing will be held Saturday, June 21 at Harrison Park Golf Course, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Area golfers are needed, as well as hole sponsors for this four-person scramble.

The entry fee is $50 and includes green fees, cart (mandatory), barbecue dinner, door prizes and drawings. Harrison Park members receive a discount. $800 in prizes will be awarded.

Sign up your team. The number is limited to the first 30 paid teams. The deadline to sign up is June 17. Call 431-2266 to sign up.

Elks Lodge 332 sponsors 'Hoop Shoot' competition

The Danville Elks Lodge 332 competition for the 34th Annual Elks “Hoop Shoot,” the national free throw shooting contest for youngsters ages 8 though 13, will be held from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Danville High School gymnasium.

More than three million youngsters from throughout the country entered last year’s competition for boys and girls in age categories 8-9; 10-11; and 12-13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.

This event is open to the public at no charge.

All contestants at every level of competition receive certificates of participation and achievement. Winners receive trophies and plaques.

Family YMCA hosts gymnastics open house

The Danville Family YMCA will hold an open house for the gymnastics program from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at the YMCA, 1111 N. Vermilion St.

This is an opportunity for parents and children to meet instructors and some of the children who attend the classes. Activities are planned for ages 16 months to 16 years old.

There will be an early sign-up sheet for those interested in a pre-team class. For other information, contact Angie at 442-0563, ext. 19.
